About the client

Efteling is one of the top European theme parks, attracting over 5 million visitors annually. With the ambition to be completely climate-neutral by 2032, the park is taking major steps toward a sustainable future.

About the project

Efteling Retail is committed to contributing to Efteling’s broader sustainability goals, with a particular focus on responsible procurement. To support this ambition, they partnered with 2BHonest to develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy.

Activities

We started by analyzing the current state of Efteling Retail and its value chain. This included a review of strategic documents and procurement data to identify key products and materials. Through interviews with various departments, we gained valuable insights into the sustainability risks, opportunities, and challenges associated with Efteling’s operations and product offerings.

Next, we mapped the sustainability aspects of the key products by material stream. We identified potential risks and opportunities and conducted a scan of relevant legislation, including the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The findings were presented to the management team per material stream, after which we jointly defined the next steps.

Finally, based on the most significant risks and opportunities, we defined the sustainability pillars and ambitions for Retail. Together with Efteling, we translated these into concrete objectives and KPIs.

Results

The result is a sustainability strategy for Efteling Retail that empowers them to create meaningful impact across the entire value chain — from supplier to guest, and throughout every stage of the process, from raw material extraction to production and end-of-life.
