With a network of 13 broadcasters, the NPO (Dutch Public Broadcasting) serves as a governing body that ensures a pluralistic and diverse media landscape—one that reflects the multifaceted nature of Dutch society. Each broadcasting association targets specific audiences or represents distinct social and ideological movements.
NPO engaged 2BHonest to map the CO₂ footprint of both the NPO organization and all 13 affiliated broadcasters. We conducted comprehensive calculations covering Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions to gain a complete picture of their environmental impact.
This was a significant step for an organization that not only plays a central role in society and reaches millions of people daily, but also strives to lead by example in environmental transparency. NPO is demonstrating how public institutions can take a proactive role in sustainability.
We applied a consistent methodology across all broadcasters, tailoring it to each organization’s specific context. In close collaboration with stakeholders, we ensured the calculations aligned with their workflows and available data.

Finally, we presented the results to internal stakeholders at both NPO and the affiliated broadcasters.
This project provided NPO and its broadcasters with clear insights into their environmental impact. Each organization also received templates and documentation to help them repeat the calculations independently in the coming years.
