Why develop an ESG strategy?

In a world where sustainability and ESG are becoming increasingly important from a strategic perspective, organizations face new challenges and opportunities. Executives not only want to contribute to a better future, but also to achieve tangible results. A clear sustainability strategy is essential in this regard: it provides direction, creates a competitive edge, and generates long-term value.

A strong ESG strategy helps organizations stay on course in a rapidly changing environment. It ensures that sustainability goals remain a central focus within your organization. Furthermore, it provides a solid foundation for reporting and preparing for assurance.

Here’s how we do it — your own action plan in four steps

An ESG strategy requires a customized approach. It’s not a “one-size-fits-all” solution, but rather an approach tailored to the reality within your organization — one that allows us to make a real impact. We’re here to support you in that process. Our approach consists of three steps. We start with a thorough baseline assessment to determine where your organization currently stands. Next, we work with you to formulate the strategic framework, with clear pillars and ambitions. Finally, we translate this strategy into a concrete action plan.

1. Baseline measurement

We assess the current state of affairs through an internal and external analysis. We conduct an assessment of current ESG legislation and perform an internal analysis of the current state of affairs. To do this, we use our ESG Quick Scan. We prioritize the most important issues for your organization and conduct interviews to validate them.

2. Strategic framework

Together, we develop the strategic pillars and focus areas and define our ambitions through interactive workshops. This allows us to establish KPIs and goals and ensure they are supported throughout the organization.

3. Action plan

We translate the strategy into short-, medium-, and long-term actions with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. In doing so, we establish the internal governance structure so that everyone involved knows what to expect and how to apply it in their daily work.

4. Implementation

If desired, we can provide support for the further rollout and implementation within your organization. This depends on your specific needs. We can develop the KPIs along with appropriate measurement methods to ensure targeted data collection. We can also work with you to develop a communication and engagement plan to involve the entire organization in the strategy. Or, if you’d like to focus on sustainable procurement, we can draft a sustainable procurement policy to provide targeted guidance.
