CO₂ Reduction Plan

Why make a CO₂ reduction plan?

A CO₂ reduction plan helps organisations reduce their climate impact in a targeted and measurable way. It is the logical next step after completing a carbon footprint assessment: while the footprint identifies where emissions occur, the reduction plan outlines how these emissions can be structurally reduced. Increasingly, legislation such as the CSRD, commitment to SBTi, as well as rising expectations from customers and other stakeholders, make it essential not only to measure emissions, but also to demonstrate concrete action.

At 2BHonest, we develop reduction plans that align with the reality of your organisation: ambitious, pragmatic and achievable, and always grounded in reliable data. The goal is to define measures that are both effective and feasible. This includes setting clear priorities, estimating costs and quantifying expected impact. We can also ensure that the plan aligns with international standards, such as the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The result is a concrete roadmap that provides direction, builds internal support and helps turn climate ambitions into real, measurable action.

This is how we do it – your own action plan in three steps

1. Assess the current situation

We start with a thorough analysis of your organisation’s current CO₂ emissions and the main drivers behind them. This begins with an existing carbon footprint, which we review. We identify where the greatest reduction opportunities lie, which can be both within your own operations and across the supply chain. Through research, data analysis and discussions with key stakeholders, we map technological, organisational and behavioural opportunities. This forms the foundation for a well‑substantiated reduction plan.

2. Set reduction targets

Together, we set measurable and evidence-based reduction targets that align with the organisation’s ambitions and relevant frameworks such as the CSRD and SBTi Net Zero targets. Based on research and discussions, we identify technological, organisational and behavioural opportunities. This forms the starting point for a well-founded reduction plan. We define the timelines and link them to monitoring indicators, so that progress can be closely tracked.

3. Formulate reduction plan

As a third step, we draw up the appropriate reduction measures for your organisation. We do this together, drawing on the expertise of both your staff and ours. We identify actions based on impact, investment, and timeframe. These include technical optimisations, sustainable procurement, mobility policy, energy measures, and supply chain collaboration. We set out all measures in clear steps, responsibilities, and timelines. The result: a tailored, concrete, and widely supported reduction plan that you can actually put into practice.

Climate neutral means that an organisation compensates for its own emissions so that the net emissions are zero; even if actual emissions have not been significantly reduced. Offsetting through for example forestry projects plays a major role here.

Net Zero goes further. It requires organisations to structurally reduce almost all emissions across their entire value chain, and to offset only the small share of residual emissions that cannot be eliminated. Net Zero therefore focuses on genuine emission reduction rather than primarily relying on offsetting. This is where true impact happens!

A CO₂ reduction plan and an SBTi pathway are closely connected: both describe how an organisation aims to reduce its emissions based on clear, measurable targets.
The key difference is that SBTi targets are externally assessed and validated according to scientific criteria.

At 2BHonest, we ensure that reduction plans align with SBTi guidelines, so they can be submitted for validation if desired.

A carbon footprint provides insight into how many emissions an organisation currently generates and where those emissions come from. It makes the present situation transparent and measurable.

A CO₂ reduction plan builds on this by setting reduction targets and identifying the measures needed to structurally reduce those emissions over time.
