About the client
With more than 5 million visitors a year, Efteling ranks among Europe’s top theme parks. With the goal of becoming fully climate-neutral by 2032, the park is taking major steps toward a sustainable future.
About the project
Efteling Retail, too, wants to play an active role in Efteling’s sustainability goals and is focusing on sustainable procurement to that end. To this end, it enlisted the expertise of 2BHonest to develop its sustainability strategy.
Work
We began by analyzing the current status and value chain of Retail. We reviewed strategic documents and procurement data to identify the most important products and materials. Through interviews with various departments, we gained insight into the sustainability risks, opportunities, and challenges facing Efteling and the products it sells.
We then assessed the sustainability aspects of the most important products for each material stream. We identified risks and opportunities and conducted a review of relevant legislation, such as the CSDDD and the Deforestation Act. We presented the results for each material stream to the management team, after which we jointly determined the next steps.
Finally, based on the greatest risks and opportunities, we established the sustainability pillars and ambitions for Retail. Together with Efteling, we formulated specific objectives and KPIs.
Result
The result is a sustainability strategy for Efteling Retail that enables the company to make an impact by ensuring sustainability throughout the entire supply chain — from supplier to guest — and across various processes — from raw material extraction through the production process to the end of a product’s life cycle.
While we were complete novices six months ago, we now know what steps to take to reduce our carbon footprint and work toward our sustainability goals. That’s a great result!
